So Animal Crossing: New Leaf has been out in America for about 2 months now, and many people are crazy about it. Animal Crossing has always been a very popular relaxation game, and New Leaf brings in a whole new concept of relaxing. Plot SummaryIn ACNL you're thrown into the game as a mayor. Yeah you were made mayor by mistake but you don't care because you're ruler of your very own Animal Kingdom. So as Mayor your main goal is to make the town come together. To do this you enforce "Public Work Projects" which are basically different architectural creations that you can place in town to make it look pretty or to add a new interaction to the town. This is your main objective as mayor. You do, however, still have all of the regular Animal Crossing tasks. Pay off your house. Fill the museum. Get neat furniture. Interact with cute animals. New and Awesome AdditionsSo even though New Leaf still has the usual Animal Crossing suspects, it also has a lot of really rad new features that make the game more enjoyable and easier to play without getting bored. Public Works ProjectsLet's talk about the Works Projects again. The Works Projects are really neat because you can add bridges, benches, decorations, and upgrades to your town. What's even neater is that what you can build changes over time. Villagers will run up to you with an idea and tell you about it. Then you'll be able to build it! You can also unlocks new projects by having different experiences in your game. (i.e. resetting causes the Reset Center to become available and waking your secretary, Isabelle, up causes the Dream Suite to become available.) The only real downside of this is that it can take a while for you to be able to unlock a project you want when you have to wait for your villagers to tell you about it. Island/Dream SuiteThe Island is a place where it's always Summer! There's a lot of mini-games there as well as items that you can't get anywhere else. Story-wise this is where our old mayor, Tortimer, went to after retiring from his job as mayor. At the Island you can choose to be randomly assigned another player to play with on the island, or you can go by yourself (or with friends if they're in your town already). Some of the mini-games include mix and match games, flower planting games, furniture scavenger hunt games, and catching bugs/fish games. Sometimes they put you against your fellow islanders and sometimes they have you work together. After each game you're given coins that can only be used to buy items on the island. This is a fun way to play with people all over the world, especially when you get bored of playing alone and none of your friends are on. The Dream Suite is a very interesting concept. Basically you can enter someone else's Dream Address (which you can get by having them give it to you), select one from the internet option, or just let the lady send you to a random town. Being sent to a town allows you to explore and fuck with other people's places as much as you want. You can't interact with them or go to their shops though, and everything you do in the Dream Town will be erased later. I've found it's worth a few good laughs to see what other players do, and it's also a good way to get some new designs. When you go to Dream Towns you'll find a Walrus (the same one who would give you wallpaper in the other games when you gave him fish. Wendell I think is his name?) and he'll offer you any of the designs that you owner of the Town has allowed to be taken by others. So basically you can have other people's custom designs that they made. It's pretty neat. These are two of the biggest ways to spend time in ACNL when you get bored of fishing and none of the villagers want to talk to you anymore. (P.S. the Dream Address in that screenshot is mine, if you're interested) Clothing Designs and QR CodesJust like in all of the previous Animal Crossings, you can still design clothes. In New Leaf, however, when you choose to make a Pro Design you're also able to choose the specifics of the type of outfit you want to make. This means you can choose to make a shirt, dress, short sleeve shirt, long sleeve shirt, sleeveless shirt, sleeveless dress, long sleeve dress, short sleeve dress, etc. You can also make hats, but the hats are in the design of the old Animal Crossings with the pointy hats n stuff. You can't make like...fedoras or anything. You also can't design shoes, pants, or skirts, which kind of sucks. You could always make a dress that looks like it's a shirt/skirt combo (Like I did in the screenshot of my Chuunibyou anime outfit), but that's really all you can do in that field. Additionally, if you talk to Sable (The sister behind the sewing machine) on a regular basis she'll eventually unlock a new "sewing machine" for you to use. This is a QR code machine. With it you can create QR codes of clothing you've made and post it on the internet or send it to friends so that others can use it! DivingOne of the items you can buy on the island with your mini-game coins is a wetsuit. With the wetsuit you can swim in the ocean and dive to catch new types of creatures. These include clams, pearls, seaweed, and some kinda of cephalopods and crustaceans. So in short it's a new category of creatures to collect in addition to bugs, fish, and fossils. You can also jump off of cliffs into the ocean and I'm not sure why but I find it really amusing and fun. Not a lot to it other than that. Villager InteractionsVillagers are a lot more in-depth in their interactions now. They'll run up to you in excitement if they have something they really want to tell you or ask you to do for them. For example they may run up to you and give you a new nickname, request a new project, ask for a new phrase to say, tell you they're planning on moving, give you presents, or ask if they can trade/buy something from you. It kind of makes you feel like the Animals actually think about you and stuff. It's pretty cool/creepy. In addition the villagers will tell you when they plan to move instead of just sending a letter and being like "I'm out dis bitch PEACE". They'll give you a specific date, and up until that date you can choose to tell them that you don't want them to leave. This is really cool because it gives you more control of your town. You won't come home from a friend's town and wonder where your favorite villager went or anything like that. Villagers will also fish, catch bugs, shake trees, water flowers, plant flowers, shop, and even donate to your public works projects. These additions really make it feel like the villagers are helping change the town, instead of just chilling and making you do everything and stuff. Additionally, they'll invite you over to their home. Once there they'll usually ask if you like their furniture and you can sometimes buy things from them. With this in mind, it's also worth mentioning that the characters change their house around often. They'll buy things from Re-Tail (an in-town shop owned by a couple of Alpacas where you can sell things and even put things up for auction) and put it in their home, and if you give them furniture upon one of their requests then they'll also place it in their houses. The Town ItselfThe town itself has changed quite a bit as well. It's mostly small things, but it's pretty neat. You can create ordinances that change the town completely. Like having stores and villagers stay open later or open earlier. This changes your game to help fit your schedule and it's really nice. Your store section has been split up to really show how the characters/shopkeepers have grown since the older games. Tom Nook now runs a shop where you can remodel your home by picking a new roof type/color, a new door, a new mailbox, and even pavements and fences to go around your home to really make it yours. The little Nooks have taken over the Nook's Cranny store which still sells furniture, wallpaper, carpet, stationary, and also fortune cookies. You can buy the Fortune Cookies with 3DS play coins you get from walking. You can exchange the fortunes for rare items that are Nintendo-related. Samus helmet, Link clothes, different furniture from Nintendo games like Pikmin, Mario, Donkey Kong, and others. You still have the Able Sisters but Labelle has moved back from the city to join in on the family business! Labelle sells accessories and hats, while Mabel and Sable still do their thing of selling clothes and letting you design stuff. Right next door (once you unlock it) is Kick's which is a shoe/sock shop! These shops help you to really customize your character to the fullest. One of the newest and most loved areas in the town is Club LOL. Once you unlock Club LOL DJ KK will play tunes all night long (8PM+) and on Saturday's will give you music and play the guitar for you just like the good ole days. In the daytime you can go to Club LOL and Dr. Shrunk will be there setting things up for night time. You can give him fruit and he'll put on a comedy show for you and give you new emotes to use. In the actual Town and not on Main Street, you have a store called Re-Tail. At Re-Tail you can sell things (like you would at Nook's Cranny in the previous games) and also put things up for auction so your fellow players/villagers can buy them. The villagers themselves can also put items up for auction and you can buy them. Additionally, after a bit you'll unlock the possibility to change the colors and textures of items at Re-Tail. You can bring in gems that you find from rocks and an item you wish to change and they'll do it for you. It's pretty interesting and it gives a lot of possibilities for a unique home. You also have a tree in the center of town. This tree relates to the old Animal Crossings and the Well they had. When you become mayor you plant a tree and it grows as you play. It gives you a really sentimental feel for the game and what's happening in it. 9/10This game is more enjoyable than any of the other Animal Crossings (I have literally played each and every one of them). You can spend a couple of hours each day playing it and get a lot done. This combined with the art, feel, and nostalgia factor of the game makes it really awesome.
Do recommend. OUYA seems to be hurting because nobody cares about their console and all of their games suck, so they're giving away a million dollars for anybody willing to make their game exclusive to OUYA. In order to qualify for any of the money you have to start a KickStarter and get a minimum of $50,000. That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it?
Read up on it here : http://www.ouya.tv/freethegamesfund/ Looks moderately interesting.
1. LoL/DOTA 2These two games are extremely easy to pick up, only taking about 30 seconds to find a match, and can be extremely addicting. Being competitive games, there isn't any story to pay attention to and you can play the game based purely on visual cues. 2.FTLAll you need is a mouse for your treks through the vacuum of space, you don't need a monstrous rig to run it, so you can run it in windowed mode easily and have some videos going on the side. The game is really slow paced and relaxed so you can just sit back and upgrade your ship, take down pirates, and cruise through space. The game also resets after each death, bringing something new and refreshing with each play, but also keeping certain unlocks so your playtime doesn't feel completely useless. 3. Don't Starve/Minecraft/Other Sandbox GamesThese kinds of games are perfect if you want to tune out the world and listen to some music. Just pop into your world, get creative, mine some supplies, kill some spiders or something, and feel pure bliss and adventure. Just be careful, if you don't keep an eye on the time you could end up losing two weeks of your life. 4.CivilizationThe great thing about these games is that they take forever, so you can taken an entire afternoon to sit and watch some movies and take over the world, and you don't even need to worry about missing anything important in the movie because the game is turned based, so you can take a break and you won't miss anything. If the action really picks up in the movie, you can save on the exact turn you are on and pick it up at anytime. They also happen to be insanely fun. 5.World of WarcraftNeed to grind some dailies? Gotta get your crafting skills up? Farming your honor cap? All things that require little to no thought, which makes for a great game to play while watching your shows. Nothin' better than farming instance runs to level up while watching The Sopranos. 6.The SimsThe Sims is a game that's really easy to play for hours and hours. You can just sit and makes your Sims build skills, advance in careers, go to college, become supernatural creatures, and woohoo with every other sim in the neighborhood. The only speech is complete gibberish, so you don't have to actually listen to the game at all (even though it has some pretty funny sounds). Additionally, the Sims has it's very own pause button. You can pause the game at any point (or just let the normal time run cause the sims act pretty slow anyway) and click on new videos or watch important movie parts. 7. Binding of IsaacThe Binding of Isaac is a solid arcade type game that has tons of unlockables, secrets, and bosses for you to play with. As you progress through Mom's Basement you gain more and more powers making Isaac into an unstoppable little demon destroying all who dare to get in his way. If you happen to make it all the way through to the end, more end bosses unlock making you want to return, on top of randomly generated dungeons making each playthrough somewhat different. A really swell little game.
1. Something bad happening behind glassSo I was playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the first time and I realized something while watching someone get smashed up against a window of glass. A lot of developers like to use glass as a barrier between you and something happening so you can stay in the game while not actually messing with the scene. I've seen this in a lot of games, like Deadspace, and Bioshock, and I'm sure it's been in plenty of games prior, but now I don't even find them entertaining anymore and when I see them I immediately think, "Well, they don't want me in there so I just have to sit and watch." 2. Moral "Choices"It seems that almost every game that comes out now has some sort of morality system, making me decide to let somebody live or blow their brains out, but for some games, I don't want to decide, I just want to play. The thing I don't like about all the choices that you have in the game, is that when they make a sequel, your choice wasn't the "true" ending. Well gee thanks developer, now you make me feel like all of my work up to this point is worthless. 3. Bloody Eyeball Regenerating HealthYou know what I'm talking about. Lift your head from cover for a few seconds and let the sweat warmth of lead seep into your body to see the amazingness that is the low health indicator. The screen goes grey and red, blood is splattered all over as if your player is wearing goggles soaked with it, your ears are ringing, and your heart is beating so loud it can be heard 10 miles away. IMMERSIVE YET?! Well if not, just wait 5 seconds and you'll be cured instantly from your blood loss. 4. All Sentient Aliens Are HumanoidAlmost any sci-fi game that features aliens showcase them being barely different from humans. They're an alien race evolved on a completely different planet, and depending on the environment they evolved in, they could be something quite weird and ugly. Yet, all you see are humans with blue skin and maybe even a little bit of a wrinkled forehead. Get imaginative, people. Don't be afraid to get weird with it. 5. Barrel = Boom6. Shotguns Useless If Target Is More Than Four Feet AwayWho started this? Is it because of game balance or did somebody actually think that is how shotguns work? Because it isn't. So stop it.
